Rubbish is clearly his forte.

I can't wait to see his name on the ballot paper.....................

Be warned though - it didn't help the last Labour Councillor that jumped wards.

A recycling tale :

Change date is upon us..6 July.

Early morning we put out our blue and white bags (some used them last week , too early said Trev and left them where they were). Out the front all day the poor bags waited.....and waited....no sign of Trev. I return from work to the sight of  2 streets full of white and blue bags - lovely. Not

Evening time came. Rang C2BG....no more Monday for you they said...normal refuse day (Wed) TT will pick up your recycling with your normal refuse stuff.....a little tersely I thought.  Hang on I said, normal refuse is out the back, TT is out the front. Nooooo, they said you were notified about these changes. OK, I said I must of missed that. I'll check she said.....ahh she said, TT is normal refuse day out the front for you ....ahh I said. You were notified they said. Hang on I said, the street is full of blue and white, it can't be just me ?  You were notified she repeated. All I had was a slip of paper saying 6 July we use the new bags...nowt else, I said. I think you need to re-send that notification as there are a lot of peeps in my situation I said. We'll look into she said.....

So what do I think of the new arrangements. Badly organised and (pardon the pun) rubbish!

I've had a similar problem Jools, I say similar because I put out my boxes as usual and they left them, altogether, completely, totally. Then my friend (neighbour Sandra came up & said both she and her immediate neighbour had one hell of an up & downer with the recycler and then with 'er in doors. The staff are having a good time I reckon. They mustn't be bullied, of course, but they need guidance.  Wink

We don't see a Cwmtillery Councillor around here. Hedley came up, as he does of an evening, and he couldn't understand it, but it's sorted now. Do you know I've never had a problem before. It's so frustrating. Genuinely. My boxes would go missing, but that was down to tealeaves. I'd report it, they were replaced & the staff-courteous with it.
Hedley's clocked it Jools.

You should get out more. There isn't many days when I'm not around most of the Ward ( and Aber ). I've a white Ford Probe, if anyone does have a problem and wants to flag me down ( as someone did yesterday, when I got out of the car in Six Bells ).
Also, there's the phone.
And of course, e-mail ( we know you can use a keyboard, it's not too difficult to synchronise your brain and e-mail, although brain and postings seem to be more difficult ).

But of course it's easier to ask the person next to you.
Won't be after May 2012, I can tell you.
Then you will be in our safe hands in Cwmtillery.

I know the bags will prove to be useless, however the instructions are very clear. Week begining 06/07/09 everything goes out on your usual "Landfill Day" obviously in the correct bags etc.

Mine were very clear too.....about the date, unfortunately nothing about a change of pick up day.

We in our street put our recycling bags out on our usual day (tuesday)
nothing happened, took them back in.
Could one of the Cllr's who uses the forum please publish a list of recycling days on here if its feasible to do so.
I appreciate it may be a lot of info but it seems a lot of people are confused over it including me. We can then pass the word on to other's.

I wonder if I can stand in 3 wards next time..................

Try this:

http://www.blaenau-gwent.gov.uk/13350.asp

It does say all collections on your normal refuse day.

It's clear to me, however, that somewhere along the line the council's method(s) of notifying people haven't been successful.
Unfortunately that won't help this situation but hopefully your feedback relayed by me will help us make mass announcements more successful in future.

btw - why hasn't 'hedleymccarthy', who started this thread been helpful ?
Would you ( me being ever hopeful ) consider answering that one ?

I was very helpful when I held the portfolio recycling increased from 3 to 21 per cent. The purpose of this thread was to find out how the changes were working, anyway it's you and your "colleagues in power" who are supposed to be running the show. Confused

'STRUTH - an answer.

Well, a response at least.

Anyway, there our readers have it.

A councillor should be helpful, especially when the public are asking for assistance, advice etc.
Instead it's just apathy.

They won't be apathetic when it comes to voting against you (again ) I'm sure.

I think it was a discussion forum for the "Hooray Henrys", "Jolly Hockey Sticks" and "Positive Pats" to extol the wondrous virtues of living working and playing in said town (Err! Cwmtillery since there is little to extol in Abertillery unless they flood it and turn it into a boating lake or reservoir... no joke it's been done before) like a dodgy car salesman or estate agent from the comfort of their own home just outside Never Never Land.

Now it once again appears to be more a battle zone for warring political factions in an interesting game of Mafia Wars. It's no surprise the locals use pseudonyms some are afraid to express their real and honest views, both truth or bullsh8t (The prefered order of the day) is sure to upset someone.

The ex pats prefere to live in their golden age bubble and see Abertillery through rose tinted specs, they still believe in the fairytale until they come home to visit and see that it is all a myth. The photos been airbrushed and the welcome's worn out.

Mr monk, nice to hear from you again, thought you'd been recycled.
I did read the scrap of paper we received, carefully as you said.
It read "PLEASE CAN YOU ENSURE THAT FROM THE 6th JULY YOU PUT YOUR RECYCLING SACKS OUT FOR COLLECTION AT YOUR CURRENT RECYCLING POINT

SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE CAUSED"

                                                                          BLAENAU GWENT
                                                                         COUNTY BOROUGH COUNCIL

NO PUNCTUATION MARKS THAT IS AS IT READ.
You probably interpret it in your own inimitable little way, to suit your rather limited needs.
You should consider recycling your brain as it seem's to have had very little if any use.
Or on the other hand as the landfill site you mentioned, it may be full of rubish. toodle pip A/M.

Would it not have been better to get peoples opinions BEFORE going ahead and wasting money on plastic bags.

In a commercial environment it would be called "Market Research".

Further more do our views really count? I think not

Hello hedley.

They do count - but it's no good them counting after the event.

I'll try to explain.

Historically ( and still today ), the groups that run councils set general areas of policy and not the actual physical things they want done.
These are left to the professionals, who come up with ideas etc. that fit in with the policy laid down.

That automatically means that the public won't have an opportunity to provide feedback or perhaps even better ideas.
Officers draw up schemes and the like and Councillors (sort of) decide yea or nay.
It's then for the councillors to be accountable.

( There are exceptions to this - the public consultation regarding school closures etc ).

This unfortunately means that most of the time councillors take the brickbats if the public aren't happy and everything is therefore done either in hindsight or is a fait accomplis that can't be undone easily.

I think most postings on this subject have proven that somewhere along the line the message regarding the new collection system and the reasons for doing it simply hasn't come across.

Without wanting to get on a particular hobby horse of mine this is due to a great extent to politics.
Some months ago someone posted on here about fortnightly collections.
That has clearly started some people thinking that any changes will revolve around that but it hasn't.
You then get all manner of things thrown up that set hares running all over the place.

I'm not convinced that the council is blameless. Clearly there should have been some sort of mechanism whereby it could ensure that everyone knew what was happening. What won't help the future instances like this is those in power simply pointing out that the opposition were wrong in their utterings and have mislead the public.

What (badly) needs to be done is to turn the whole thing around and let councillors see, debate and point out any improvements etc. that they think can be made.
We as members have advance warning of items on an agenda and I'm sure we could canvass our constituents on things such as changes to refuse collection.
I wonder how many of you would have asked 'what about our existing bins then ?' or the like.

I'm not sure how it can be achieved but it would be a great help if we could all fashion the future rather than simply explain away the past.

I know a line has to be drawn on just how much input goes into new schemes but waiting until somnething's designed - in the process of building or inception even - will never be ideal.

Consider this - what would you do if I asked you to draw something with 4 legs ?

Why have you given me a cat when I'm looking for something to sit around and have meals off ??

get in touch with nuneaton and bedworth council about how to recycle your rubbish.we get very few problems  with collections and the disposal of rubbish they will even collect such as white good for a small fee.We had problems at first when the re-cycling scheme was started but most problems have now been resolved but i will admit that we do not have the problems of access and places to put  items out for collection most of ours can be picked up from the front of each house.mind you they do hold the traffic up at times wich makes some folks very angry. But the bin men will even collect the bins and bags for the elderly and disabled people and place them out the front ready for the other bin men to pick up and aven take the bins and boxes back to where they are stored.but they never miss a collection day exeppt for christmas day and boxing day, good init.
