I know it's a long time since our discussion ( Abrogator and others ) but I've left it until now so that anyone else can have their say.
On Weds we have a Group meeting that will probably shape the way the Council goes with this. I will be taking all the views expressed on this thread forward. I hope that some will be duplicated because the councillors you've talked to bring your views up. Rest assured that we ( it won't be me on my own but us, as independently minded individuals ) will look at the first attempt and the results and will make a decision from there.
Because rest assured, if this administration changes things because 'politicians' have stirred things up I'll have my say. Ask Agent Smith where he thinks it's terrible in Tredegar and he probably won't even know where half the streets in Tredegar are.
Ask import from nationalist-county-somewhere-in-Wales what effect the policy is having on Windsor Rd and he probably won't even know which of our communities it's in.
Ask Cllr. Hedley McCarthy why he, as part of the Executive that agreed the Ebbw Vale - Cardiff link ( which wasn't even part of the plan, it being EV - NEWPORT and Abertillery-Cardiff ) and he'll give you the same answer as the first 2 - politics, pure and simple.
Next week a real representative of the people will tell you what went on, and report on what happened at Council.
Then you can decide for yourself - and more importantly use this forum to feed back your views. _________________ Rocke
I've made a contribution to the lighting debate but put it on the 'politics' forum as it makes a more directly political point than I think would be welcomed here.
Thanks for keeping us posted Dai. _________________ The compliments pass when the quality meet.
Why are the lights on in the new carpark behind Tillery Street no cars in there at this time of night nothing to damage? _________________ Down at the red rose cafe in the harbour there by the port just outside Amsterdam

THE DECISION over the future of Blaenau Gwent’s street lighting will be discussed today (Wednesday) as a petition containing over 5,000 names is handed over to the leading party.
The public outcry and political spats over the issue has led the council to reassess the decision and will consider revising the policy.
The petitions that circulated the borough have expressed concerns about crime, anti-social behaviour and dangerous roads in the dark hours between midnight and 5am.
In a report to go before the Executive, these fears are dismissed with figures showing there has been little or no increase in any of those factors, and even a drop in crime since May.
The report states: “Since May 2009, overall crime between these times (midnight and 5am) has been stable and in fact has shown a slight reduction.
“Anti-social behaviour levels increased slightly in July and August (corresponding with school holidays) compared with May and June but have shown a significant decrease in September.
“Reported traffic data is only available for the period June/July however there has been no reported accidents between the periods midnight to dawn on any of the highways affected by the current proposals.”
The Executive will be considering several options in reviewing the decision including switching all the lights back on, switching the lights off at a later hour or switching off every other light.
Blaenau Gwent council said: “The decision to switch-off street lights after midnight in some areas of Blaenau Gwent has been under constant review and we said that a full report would be published this month for decision.
“We have been looking at the best options available to us and, promptly, following the review, we were able to publish the full findings last week (Friday, October 9) in a report.
“The Council’s Executive will be making a decision based on the report today.
“We asked local people to send us their views on their street lights right at the start and we wanted to take into account all those views expressed through petitions, letters and telephone calls.
“This was the full and thorough review we said we would do, and we published the findings when we said we would do so for decision today.
“The decision to switch-off lights after midnight was not made easily.
“It was one of many tough decisions we were forced to make while trying to set a budget for 2009/10 following an extremely low settlement from the Welsh Assembly Government.
“Under normal circumstances we would consider many of these decisions to be totally unacceptable.”

BLAENAU Gwent Borough Council is not the only local authority to try turning off streetlights to save money and energy.
But it is the council whose actions have caused the biggest uproar among residents.
Following a meeting yesterday, which took on board the strength of feeling against the plans, residents now at least have a reprieve of four months until a new system is introduced in February.
While not a solution to the row it does at least give both sides in this debate breathing space, on the one hand for the opponents to come up with a stronger campaign and for the council to look at alternative schemes.
Well I drove down victoria road Six Bells tonight at 7.45 pm and all the street lights were out.
Surely this isn't the plan the council have for street lighting?
And as I've said before, anything out before midnight indicates a fault.
And as I've told people this week, anything not on after midnight from Monday should also be reported as a fault.
They're coming back on, and as far as I'm ( and I hope my colleagues are ) concerned that means soonest. And I think 10 days or so is more than enough.
I might not have time Monday to call C2BG. If the lights are off tomorrow then call 311556 and report it.
I think we'd all prefer more than 1 to report it than none at all.
