The Carpenters Arms is a lovely pub.  When the weather is nice there's nothing better than a good walk over the mountain from Six Bells to St Illtyd's.  The only trouble is you can never guarantee that the pub will be open when you get there.  There are a few benches out the front to enjoy a drink at when the place is open but it would be even better if there was a beer garden at the rear  Very Happy I'm sure business would be booming.

We walk up there pretty regularly. However Jan and Cheryl only open Friday and Saturday nights and all day Sunday.

I went their last summer. No Guinness, no Murpheys, no Jack Daniels, no Bushmills so settled for my fifth choice Worthingtons but nonetheless a really nice little pub to sit outside on a sunny day.

Thumbs Up  Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy

I went to the Carpenter's Arms yesterday evening (Saturday) as it was a lovely day and I felt like a quiet drink sitting outside.  When I got there at 6pm it was closed so I drove over to The Star in Hafodyrynys and had a drink there.  Drove back to the Carpenter's at gone 7pm and it was still closed!  I have since been told that it's no longer open on a Friday or Saturday evening; it's now just open on a Sunday (all day apparently).

It's very disappointing as it's in such a lovely location.  I'm only glad I hadn't decided to walk up there from Six Bells  Laughing

PS - The Star is a  nice pub.  Good sized beer garden with a big slide for the kids and a large car park.  They also do bar meals there and Sunday lunch although I didn't have a look at the menu.

Sorry Borracha I only just saw your post. I am sure the Carpenters still opens Friday and Saturday evenings and all day Sunday so why it was closed when you visited I don't know.

It wasn't you walking with your dog we passed on the path up through the forestry a couple of weeks ago was it?

Hi Martyn,

A good friend of Jan's told me that he now only opens on a Sunday.  He does open on a Saturday but only if there's rugby on (apparently!)

It could have been me.  I do walk through the forest every day but normally the Cwm Nant Y Groes side of Six Bells.  I have attempted to walk up the other side towards St Illtyds but there are so many sheep the dog goes mad!    I've got a great big German Shepherd lol.

It wasn't you then - not sure what dog it was but it wasn't a GS.

We must have been lucky then as we've been up to the Carpenters a couple of times on Saturday evenings lately and it's been open. Jan has started a new job though so maybe he is opening less.

I'll have to give it another try then.  The last time I tried was late April-ish.   Very Happy
