The new station is set to open on Sunday according to a report on page 2 in the Gwent Gazette this week

Can I be the first to express his astonishment and disbelief. At least if it is open I doubt you will be parking your car there as the carpark looks far from finished. I hope I'm proved wrong though.

It does not give a date and only said Sunday.  The 908 bus service operated by Henlys to meet every train from Mondays to Saturdays up to 5.19pm leave high street Abertillry at half hourly intervals with stops at Princess Street Post Office and Sixbells Hotel, arriving at Llan

Did it give a year?  Laughing

Where did you find the bus timetable Carolyn? We wanted to take the train to Cardiff a week Saturday so we'd be 'chuffed' if it was open by then.

In the Gwent Gazette they have not included this story online so could not put a link to it, strange really as I am sure there are a number of us waiting for this station to open not being able to make the journey to Ebbw Vale

When I passed the station on the train this morning Llanhilleth still looked like a building site but according to the ARRIVA web site it does actually open on Sunday, link below. There's a revised time table available as well.

http://www.arrivatrainswales.co.uk/llanhilleth_station_opening.aspx

What I don't understand, though, is why the last bus is at 1719 from Llan to Aber when the last train from Cardiff is at 2235. Confused Do they expect us to walk home after this time?

What times do the buses run from Waunlwyd to Ebbw Vale, do they connect with the later trains?

On another topic - how do I get rid of the adverts at the bottom of my postings?

We thought the same, Henley run an hourly service to Blaenau Gwent, Arrail View and Roseheyworth until late so why not include a run to Llanhilleth.  If the service is not used at these times then cut the service.  It did not say what time the service started either.  The South Wales Argus has not reported on the opening either, but then Llan is not in Ebbw Vale so I daresay not worthy of reporting Wink

Cannot see any adds below your post BTW.

THE new Llanhilleth railway station is set to open this Sunday after four months of delays.

The station is the last Blaenau Gwent stop to open on the 13 mile Ebbw Valley rail link from Ebbw Vale to Cardiff.

The Argus revealed last year that the station was delayed due to slow worms on the proposed station site.

A little mention after all

LLANHILLETH train station was officially up and running today, after months of delays.

The single platform was originally supposed to be open at the same time as the other stations on the railway line.

But as the Argus reported last year, building work at Llanhilleth was delayed after slow worms - a protected species - were found onsite.

The line itself, had also suffered delays and after claims that it should be open by Christmas time, did not open until Wednesday February 6 this year.

Great news that it's open. I'm not sure when the parking will be ready but it looks at least a week or so off to me.

It might look a bit of a mess, but I can confirm that the car park is ready (I`ve used it). There`s a bus timetable at the station and the connecting bus runs until 7.19 not 5.19 as quoted in the Gazette (not like them to get it wrong  Smile )

The line itself, had also suffered delays and after claims that it should be open by Christmas time, did not open until Wednesday February 6 this year.

But despite the delays, residents were still excited at yesterday's opening.
Harold Phelps, 65, of Commercial Road, Llanhilleth, said: "They should never have shut the railway line in the first place.

"But I'm very pleased to have it up and running again - it will be handy to get down to Cardiff and see the rugby.

He added: "It was a bit disappointing when it was delayed, but they've done a nice job- it was well worth the wait."

Nat Challenger, 18, of Llanhilleth, said: "People have been getting on and off all day.

"I'm a bit angry that it took a while to get here but I'm pleased it's here now - I'll be using it to go down to Cardiff."

Robert Harris, 65, also of Llanhilleth, added: "Every body's been looking forward to it, it will be really good for the village, especially for the youngsters

But others were not so happy with the station Mervyn Crees, 69, who lives near the station said he was "disgusted" that the station had been built so close to where a number of pensioners are living.

He said: "The noise from people getting off the trains on a Saturday night will be bad and I'm concerned about the old aged pensioners nearby."
