We went to the Beaufort Theatre last night to see Mappa Mundi's The Importance of Being Earnest. It was brilliant I thought. That's two very good plays we've seen locally in the last couple of weeks and we have still to look forward to the 2 one-act plays at the Met in May and a Frank Vickery play at Beaufort in June.
We are being spoiled with some top-class entertainment these days and it's a pity they aren't better supported as I guess they will stop if crowds don't improve.

I can endorse Martyn's account of the Mappa Mundi performance of Oscar Wilde's play at Beaufort Ballroom last Saturday. It was very entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable. I'm really looking forward to the other plays coming up over the next month or so at Beaufort and Abertillery Met. |

| Quote: | Fancy a laugh at The Metropole?
ABERTILLERY Amateur Dramatic and Musical Society are staging two plays at the Metropole in Abertillery on Tuesday, May 13 and Wednesday, May 14.
Both plays are comedies with a Welsh flavour, they do, however, have some adult content, so the group recommend adults only.
The plays are called String of Pearls and Daniel’s Wedding.
The plays are written by Frankie Baskerville, a brand new playwright.
String of Pearls had its premier at Blackwood Little Theatre last year, where it was a storming success.
Doors open 6pm, Curtain up at 7pm.
Tickets available at the Metropole or on the night, tickets are £5 each.

| Abertillery has indeed been spoiled with all the new theatre thats on offer at the met. As the writer of the two new upcomming plays at the met i would like to thank everyone in advance whos comming to see them, it takes a lot of nerve to put yourself out there, and to be willing to have your work disected in public (in the nicest possible way of corse). I just hope that the public at large get behind them and hopefully it might encorouge others to take up the mantle. Like i said hope you enjoy them, and thanks to all those who are comming. Also if you do get to see the plays all comments welcome good or bad. Thanks x |

Hi Frankie - are you a local writer? Will this be your first public peformance?
I am very much looking forwar to seeing them and hopefully the growth in the numbers attending the Met will continue and you'll get a good turnout. |

| Hi Martyn, yes iam an Abertillery girl born and bred and very proud of this fact. String of Pearls has been performed once already at Blackwood Little Theatre last year, but Daniel's Wedding is a brand new play. Hope that the unsuspecting good people of Abertillery like both plays, and come to the theatre with an open mind and a sense of humour!!!!! As String of Pearls is a little bit naughty. Enjoy. |

Congratulations Frankie!! I saw both plays tonight and enjoyed both of them immensely judging by the applause so did everyone else there.
Both were really well written and directed and tremendously humorous. The cast were brillant especially as some have not appeared in plays before which is slightly different to the musicals we are used to seeing them in, they are very much out there on their own with no music or chorus to support them yet carried it through to perfection.
Well done to all the members since they had so very little time, with only seven weeks to prepare and stage this production and hope their efforts will be well rewarded. I eagerly look forward to the next production.
For anyone who has not yet seen these plays I recommend that you go along Wednesday eveing and enjoy a very pleasureable evenings entertainment

We saw the plays last night and they were excellent. Tears were rolling down our faces at the antics of grandad.

Well we went last night and had a great time. Well done Frankie and well done the cast and support crew. I enjoyed both plays but thought String of Pearls was especially outstanding, really well written and brilliantly played.
I can't tell you how great it is to be able to wander across to town to watch some top-class entertainment instead of having to trek to Cardiff, etc every time. The Met and the theatre group are reals jewels in Abertillery's crown.
Next stop Beaufort Theatre for some Frank Vickery. |

When the curtains first opened I thought there had been a mistake in the program and thought that you had roped in Rhodri Morgan to play the part of Granddad _________________ My life is no rehearsal There'll be no curtain call encore, so I've thrown my screwed up script away to ad lib my life once more! |
