ABERFEST is almost upon us and with over 30 events planned for the week, this year is proving one not to be missed.

Starting on Saturday, June 27 through to Saturday, July 4 there's sure to be something for everyone!

This year will see the first 'Free Running' showcase where trained local youngsters will perform stunts that will transport them from A to B with as little contact with the floor as possible.

Another new event featured this year is a two day Beer Festival run in partnership between the Abertillery Lions and Waterside Mobile Bars who stage real ale and cider events at the Abergavenny and Brecon Food Festivals.

A regular feature of Aberfest now, the Great Outdoor Event organised by CLEAN and held at Cwmtillery Lakes has grown again this year to include a climbing wall, kayaking, mountain biking, pony rides, bird box workshops, animal games, face painting, bouncy castle, health checks plus much more and once you have tried all the activities you can relax by the lakeside with a BBQ and refreshments.

Community members can enjoy what's on offer at the two health road shows available throughout the week ranging from Tai Chi, dance classes, reflexology, gentle exercise classes, Wii fit to cookery and information stalls.

A number of events have been arrange for young people including free running, Graffiti art workshops with artists from Zap held at Church Street on the first Saturday.

Bands will battle it out against each other to be crowned Aberfest Champions and the chance to play at a headlining youth event for Aberfest this year, Playfest Radio Launch.

Playfest will take place throughout the second Saturday in the Arena with music workshops to include guitar, drumming and more for ages 11 years up, followed by the official launch of the new venue, Arena from 7pm for ages 16 plus with live performances.

If you would like more information about any of the events listed above or to find out where to buy tickets you can contact the Communities First Office on 01495 211488/213150.

I am fully supportive of all the work and effort that goes into the Aberfest every year but who comes up with the names for this lot.  I must be honest my 11 year old would have to be dragged kicking and screaming to a "Playfest" Rolling Eyes  Music workshop no prob but a play group for teens no way
