Hi Maryann,
I found a reference to Ty Cecil and Ty Shon farms, Bournville, Abertillery here;
http://www.acraew.org.uk/uploads/...20AND%20ABERSYCHAN%20NO.CL.15.pdf

and a map showing the location here:
http://www.lgbc-wales.gov.uk/comm...%20gwent/blgwent_draft_app3_c.pdf

Ty just means 'house' so it would probably be named after the original family who owned the farm ie Cecil House. There were several Cecil families in Abertillery.

Hope this was of some help?

many thanks for the info.I wonder if you can help me any further My ancestor(Martha Davies) named ty cecil as her residence on her marriage in 1839 and her father as Thomas Davies a farmer.The only farmer on 1841 census with that name is resident at what looks like BRYNMANE--would this possibly be the same place??Thanks mary

Hi although I am tracing Austin/Roberts/Pugh I do have Cecil family in my family tree and have been in contact with a fellow researcher.  My Cecil's are firstly from Herefordshire but came down to Blaina to work in the mines.

regards Trish
